Love on the Dole
Love on the Dole is a novel written in the early 1930s by Walter Greenwood, about working class poverty in 1930s Northern England.
Translations and adaptations
It has been made into both a play and a film. The novel was adapted for the stage by English dramatist Ronald Gow (1897-1993) [1], and opened at the Manchester Repertory Theatre in 1934. It was eventually filmed and released in 1941 by British National Films with Deborah Kerr as Sally, also starring Frank Cellier.

1938: Presented by the Cape Town Repertory Theatre Society at the Little Theatre in November, directed by René Ahrenson.
1946: Directed by Taubie Kushlick for the East Rand Theatre Club.
