Lliane Loots

Lliane Loots is a dancer, researcher and lecturer in the Drama and Performance Studies Programme at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Biography

She has a Master's degree in Gender Studies, and completed her Ph.D. in 2018 looking at contemporary dance histories on the African continent. As an artist/scholar her Ph.D. research is framed within an ethnographic and autoethnographic paradigm with a focus on narrative as methodology.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Arising from her work as dancer and teacher and the dance training programme that originally began in 1994, she founded the professional Flatfoot Dance Company in 2003. As the artistic director of the company she has won numerous choreographic awards and commissions and has travelled extensively in Europe, America and within the African continent with her dance work.
