Katrina Kakkerlak ("Katrina Cockroach") is an Afrikaans tragicomedy for one performer, written and played by the author. Katrina Kakkerlak is an enigmatic resident of a smallholding called Die Ark, said to be from Koekenaap and lately released from prison. Little is known of her beyond her fascination with insects, and like them she watches the world from below, taking the audience through a past of prison bars and shadowed places to the sand roads of Die Ark. She wants only to belong.

Performance history in South Africa

2025: First staged at the Kaapstad Toneelhuis in its new premises in Loop Street, Cape Town, in March*, directed and designed by Eddie Newman. The production marked the author's return to the stage after four years.
