Jack-in-the-Green is a comedy by Mark Lemon (1809–1870)[1]

Also found as Jack in the Green

Not to be confused with the English May Day custom, "Jack-in-the-Green"[2].

First performed at the Adelphi Theatre, London, some time between 1835 and 1850.

Performance history in South Africa

1869: Performed as Jack in the Green by the Lanarkshire Dramatic Club (amateur players from the 99th Regiment) in the Garrison Theatre, Cape Town, on 17 March, with One Tree Hill (Craven) and a "Comic Negro Song" sung by R. Norcliffe.

1869: Performed as Jack in the Green by the Lanarkshire Dramatic Club (amateur players from the 99th Regiment) in the Garrison Theatre, Cape Town, on 2 June, with The Gipsy Farmer, or Jack and Jack's Brother (Johnstone) and a comic song sung "in costume" by R. Norcliffe.
