Gregoire Boonzaier
Gregoire Boonzaier (1909-2005) was a famed South African painter, book illustrator and occasional set designer and painter.

Biography
Born in Cape Town on 31 July 1909, the son of political cartoonist and theatre critic D.C. Boonzaier, he trained as an artist at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and the Central School of Art and Design in London.
Particularly admired for his landscapes, portraits and still life paintings, Boonzaier is seen as a leading exponent of Cape Impressionism and was founder member of the New Group[1].
He died on 22 April 2005 at Onrus, near Hermanus.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He usually signed his paintings Gregoire, and besides his prolific output as painter, also did some set designs and backdrops for theatre productions and covers and illustrations for published versions of Afrikaans literary works and plays.
