Die Familie Zaak

Die Familie Zaak ("The case about the family") is a full-length Afrikaans comedy by C.J. Langenhoven (1873-1932).

The title was later adapted to modern Afrikaans spelling as Die Familiesaak.

The original text

A reworking of the author's own short farce Die Trouwbelofte (1907) it tells of a court case dealing with wedding vows, watering rights, breeding birds, lawyers, etc.

First published by J&H Pocock in Oudtshoorn 1911.

Performance history in South Africa

1911: First full performance of in the Drillsaal (Drill Hall) in Oudtshoorn in May 1911.

1932: Performed in Bloemfontein as Die Familiesaak by Die Vrystaatse Toneelskool, directed by Hendrik Hanekom.
