The First Gentleman

The First Gentleman is a play in two acts by English playwright Norman Ginsbury (1903-1991). The Prince Regent is anxious for his daughter to marry a man of his choosing - but she marries the man she loves - an impoverished prince. Later she dies in child birth.

The play was first staged in London in 1945, starring Robert Morley as the Prince Regent and Wendy Hiller as Princess Charlotte.

A 1948 British historical drama film was based on the play, also released as Affairs of a Rogue.
