One Man

One Man is a collection of three solo pieces; a three-act social satire, which sees Steven Berkoff in roles ranging from a man in denial of his obvious dementia (Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe) to a hilarious day in the life of a football hooligan and his pitbull terrier, Roy (dog by Berkoff). The third act, Actor (also written by Berkoff), is a portrait of an out-of-work actor and increasingly desperate Hamlet who is getting nowhere fast. In 1997 Berkoff directed and performed One Man at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival, production and stage management by Nic Mattingley, general management by Jan Ryan. This production was staged in the Main Theare at the Market from 15 to 19 July 1997.

In 2002 Berkoff came to Cape Town, South Africa, for the filming of the film Charlie and he used the opportunity to perform One Man at the Baxter Theatre.
