Cecil Fillis

(b. Brisbane, Queensland, 07/11/1892 – d. Malvern, Victoria, 26/10/1962). Circus performer, racehorse trainer. The son of Frank Fillis and a sibling of Adele Fillis and Frank Fillis Jr, Cecil Edward Fillis was born in Brisbane while his parents were on tour in Australia. Like his sister and half-brother, he performed in their circuses and then saw service during World War I, first in the 4th Mounted Rifles during the German South West Africa campaign and later in the King Edward Light Horse regiment in France, where he was wounded. He acted in one silent feature, The Man Who Was Afraid (Joseph Albrecht/1920) and subsequently became a successful racehorse trainer, primarily in South Africa and Australia. (FO)
