The People's Theatre, Johannesburg
Jill Gerard and Joyce Levinsohn presented children’s plays at the Intimate Theatre under the banner People's Theatre. They staged their Easter holiday production, Tales of Beatrix Potter there in 1983.
Jill Gerard and Keith Smith then founded the People’s Theatre as a children's theatre company for young people The company went on to present Winnie the Pooh and The Wizard of Oz at the Intimate in 1991. They presented Peter Pan and Pinocchio in 1992. Together with Nedbank and Penguin Publishers Gill Gerard took a tour of Peter Rabbit and Other Tales to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban in 1993. Together with PACT they staged The Wizard of Oz in 1993.
The Company later made the its home at Joburg Theatre Complex (formally the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, staging over 8 productions per year.
