The Night of the Iguana [1] is a 1961 play by American playwright Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) [2].

The original text
Based on a short story of the same name wrtitten by Williams in 1948.
Translations and adaptations
Two film adaptations have been made, including the Academy Award-winning 1964 film directed by John Huston and starring Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, and Deborah Kerr. The other is a 2000 Serbo-Croatian production.
Performance history in South Africa
1962: Directed by Leonard Schach, performed by the Cockpit Players (then known as Leonard Schach Productions) in Johannesburg, as well as Cape Town. Cast members included Siegfried Mynhardt, Diane Wilson, Margaret Inglis, Kerry Jordan, Michael McGovern, Bill Brewer, Paddy Canavan, Marjorie Gordon, Yossi Graber and Estelle Kohler. It was staged at the Playhouse in Johannesburg on the 19th of July, 1962 and was the first performance of this play outside the U.S.A. It was also the last production by the Cockpit Players.
1983: Staged by PACT Drama, directed by William Egan, with Eric Flynn (Rev. Shannon), Annabel Linder (Maxine Faulk), Sandra Duncan (Hannah Jelkes), Carol-Ann Kelleher (Charlotte Goodall), Steffen Zoutendijk (Hank), Theresa Iglich (Judith Fellowes), Graham Weir (Pedro), Martin le Maitre (Pancho), Norman Coombes (Herr Fahrenkopf), Sheila Ferguson (Frau Fahrenkopf), Frank Dankert (Wolfgang), Karin erg (Hilda), Anthony James (Jonathan Coffin) and James Borthwick (Jake Latta).
