Stop the World – I Want to Get Off [1] is a musical with a book, music, and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse [2] and Anthony Newley [3].

The original text

The West End production, directed by Newley, opened on 20 July 1961 at the Queen's Theatre, where it ran for 485 performances. Newley starred as Littlechap, with Anna Quayle playing the multiple roles of Evie and the other women in his life.

Performance history in South Africa

1964: Adam Leslie staged Anthony Newley’s revue Stop the World – I Want to Get Off, starring Anna Quayle and Michael McGovern for the Reps. Albert Ninio directed this production which ran for fourteen weeks and formed part of the Johannesburg Festival.

1976: Staged by PACT, directed by Frank Shelley with David Gilchrist and Diane Wilson for PACT in 1976.
