(b.**/**/**** - d.**/**/****). Police officer (actor). Though he was not an actor, C. (Carl) E. Richter nonetheless was one of only five individuals who appeared in Moedertjie (Joseph Albrecht/1931) the first Afrikaans-language sound film. A constable at the time, he played the policeman who has arrested Moedertjie's son, the role taken by Pierre de Wet. He went on to become the bodyguard of four of South Africa's Prime Ministers. As Major Richter he was present when an attempt was made to assassinate Dr. H.F. Verwoerd at the Union Exposition at Milner Park in Johannesburg on 9 April 1960. (FO)
