The original text
A play about the controversial South African poet Roy Campbell, won a string of awards, including the SACPAC Playwriting Award for Best Play in 1993 and the Vita Playwright of the Year Award for 1995/96. The E.P. Herald called it "a masterful work that has earned a niche in the sparse collection of great South African theatrical endeavours".

Performance history in South Africa
Staged at the Alexander Theatre in June 1995 and the Momentum Theatre at the State Theatre in July 1995, directed by Anthony Akerman, with Jamie Bartlett, Camilla Waldman, Jennifer Steyn, David Clatworthy, Thomas Hall and Alex Ferns. The same production went to the Grahamstown Festival 1995.
