The South African Guild of Actors (SAGA) is a labour union representing actors in the film, television, stage, commercial and corporate sectors in South Africa. Its aims are to enhance actors' working conditions, compensation and benefits and to be a unified voice on behalf of artists' rights. It was founded after an an open meeting held at the Actor's Centre at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre on the 23rd February 2009, organised by Carlyn De Waal, Stacy Koma and Zane Meas, who chaired the meeting. This was followed by a subsequent meeting in Cape Town, where the formation of a South African Guild of Actors was formally accepted and at a follow-up meeting interim officials were elected, to register SAGA as a trade union.
