The Queen and the Rebels (La regina e lgli insorti), by Ugo Betti (1892-1953). Betti was an Italian judge, better known as an author, who is considered by many the greatest Italian playwright next to Pirandello. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugo_Betti. A drama set in WWII. First published in Italian in 1949, the translation in 1956.
First produced in South Africa in 1957 by the Johannesburg Reps, directed by Clifford Williams with Sonia Dresdel. A production in Afrikaans was directed by William Egan for PACOFS in the 1970s, starring, among others, Wim Vorster.
