(****-****). Actor. Performed in The King and I (as “The King”), Pygmalion (as “Higgins”), King Lear (as “Gloucester”), Twelfth Night (as “Aguecheek”), The Prisoner (as “Cardinal”), Royal Hunt of the Sun (as “de Soto” with PACT). Was also the Durban representative for SAFTU. (SACD 1974) (SACD 1975/76) (SACD 1981/82)

HORNER, David (1934-1985) Actor (stage and radio), director, lecturer. Studied at the University of Natal’s Department of Drama in Durban. *** Became lecturer in Department, then the founding head of the Drama Department at the University of Durban-Westville in 19**. From here he was appointed as first head of the School of Speech and Drama, University of the Witwatersrand in 19***. A consummate performer, he performed for **, ** NTO, and PACT.He was also a renowned exponent of the one-man show, his repertoire including Paul Gallico's The Snow Goose, Frank O'Hagen's Satin and Tweed, Churchill and Wits of the Theatre. Children’s Theatre presented an evening of readings by Horner in 1958. He starred in Peter Shaffer’s Royal Hunt of the Sun, directed by Leonard Schach together with Marius Weyers, Michael McCabe, Keith Grenville, Patrick Mynhardt and Bill Flynn. It was staged during the opening season of the Pretoria State Theatre in 1981 *** (Tucker, 1997)
