Biography
Leigh Bishop has a fine arts background and has worked in film, television and theatre for the past 22 years.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
She has designed a number of feature films, amongst them the award-winning Wooden Camera, which received a Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and Best Film Granprix in Montreal and John Kani's Nothing but the Truth which received a Silver Stallion and Peace Prize at the Ouagadougou Film Festival and Best African Film in Milan.
Leigh has worked with Mark Dornford-May on the acclaimed productions of The Mysteries – Yiimimangaliso, Carmen, The Beggar's Opera - Ibali loo Tsotsi and Silver Lake, which toured worldwide. They also worked together on A Christmas Carol - Ikrismas Kherol and The Magic Flute - Impempe Yomlingo.
Other productions include: A Lie of the Mind, Four:30 – Operas Made in South Africa, Yerma, Woza Albert!
Awards
The Magic Flute - Impempe Yomlingo also won Leigh the 2008 Naledi Award for Best Costume.
She won the Fleur du Cap Award for Best Costume Design for Slowly (2015) and (with Lieze van Tonder) for Twelfth Night (2018).
