James Cuningham

James Cuningham (19**- ) is a South African actor and director.

In some sources and media his name is wrongly spelled "James Cunningham".

He studied theatre at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg and at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris[1], in the 1990s.

James is a leading South African actor and theatre maker. Trained at Lecoq in the early 90s James went back to South Africa to found Fresco Theatre which won numerous awards in South Africa and the UK including a Fringe First at Edinburgh for Baobabs Don’t Grow Here. James teaches and directs widely and currently stars in 2 of South Africa’s most popular TV series.


Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Having finished his training at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris, he and his wife Helen Iskander returned to South Africa to found the Fresco Theatre Company [2] in 2002.

The company won numerous awards in South Africa and the UK, including a Fringe First at Edinburgh for Baobabs Don’t Grow Here.

James teaches and directs widely and has starred in some of South Africa's most popular TV series.
