Grieta kry geleerdheid is an Afrikaans South African adaptation, by Hennie van Greunen, of Willy Russell's Educating Rita. Grieta, a Bishop Lavis hairdresser who wants to know everything, meets her tutor, the frustrated academic and alcoholic Prof. Frans; through their lessons both learn more than they expected.
Performance history in South Africa
2012: Staged at the US Woordfees, Stellenbosch, presented by Wordsmith's Theatre Factory, with translation, adaptation and direction by Hennie van Greunen, at Hoërskool Stellenbosch, on 7 and 10 March, on the Sanlam Dramafees programme. The cast was Chris van Niekerk and Lulu Botha.
