DEGENAAR, (Professor) Johannes J. (“Johan”) Cultural and political philosopher from the University of Stellenbosch whose popular and provocative teachings and talks on theatre, literature art and particular contemporary film made him a cult figure among cultural Organisations and thinkers in the 1990s, a favourite keynote speaker at conferences and festivals. His famous “discussion groups” on and off the campus were in a way the sounding boards for the ideas of other cultural theorists of the time.
