DA GAMA, Vasco. (1460 - 1524). Portuguese Admiral, the first Portuguese captain to sail round the Cape of Good Hope to the east. Recorded dancing and singing of Khoi-san in Mossel Bay in 1497, at which time he and his men also played and danced [See "Early African-European contact"].
