Cocky Thlothlalamaje (19*-). Playmaker.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He devised the original musical play Isintu ("mankind") with the Phoenix Players. This was then reworked by Canadian director Clarence Wilson with the group and, under the new name of Meropa (sotho for drums), it was taken on a 3 month tour of Japan and the Far East. On their return, the show was enlarged and restaged by Brickhill-Burke to re-open the refurbished His Majesty’s Theatre in Johannesburg in 1974.
