The Union Bioscope Company was a company set up by a printer, a plumber, and a chemist to exploit the advent of the bioscope in South Arica.

Their first cinema was a wood and iron building in Human Street in Krugersdorp called the Lyric Theatre. It opened in 1909 but was later demolished and replaced by the Vaudette Theatre, and the name was then used for a number of Vaudette Theatres in various towns/cities.

The company also opened cinemas in Kimberly and East London.
