The State Theatre Opera Company was established in 1996, following the disbanding of PACT and the PACT Opera department. The company continued to produce opera on a smaller scale until the State Theatre was temporarily ‘mothballed’ by the government in 2000 after exposure of alleged financial mismanagement.
