Municipal Choral and Light Opera Society was an amateur society in Durban.

Also referred to as the Durban Municipal Light Operatic and Choral Society

History

Towards the end of the Second World War, the Municipal Choral and Light Opera Society was formed, producing operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan at the Criterion in 1946. The society produced Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers as well as The Mikado under the direction of Teddy Browne and William Pickerill. The organisation continued to produce light opera until the early 1960s.
