The Barretts of Wimpole Street : a comedy in five acts is a play by English playwright Rudolf Besier (1878-1942).

Another translation into Afrikaans, also entitled Die Barretts van Wimpolestraat, was done by Jan Schutte.

Performance history in South Africa

1943: Produced by Rosalie van der Gucht for the Cape Town Repertory Theatre Society at the Little Theatre with Joyce Burch, Elizabeth Hutton, George Movshon, Victor Evans, Dorothea Gibson, George Royle, R.W. McCluskie.

1953: Die Schutte translation was presented by the Bloemfonteinse Teatergroep in the Visser Hall from 11-13 September, directed by Maria Bosman, starring Diana du Plessis as Elizabeth Browning, Jan Eksteen (Browning), Anneke Smit, Magriet Spies, Willie Conradie, Anna van Biljon, Hope Smith, Schalk Theron and others.

1956: Presented by the Dramatic Society of East London, starring Joy Meaker, Eileen Stevens and Lynette Alexander.
