Audience: General definition
The word audience', in the sense of a group of assembled spectators or listeners at a public event such as a play, film, concert, or meeting, is generally used in South Africa, while the term spectators is reserved for sporting events, the term listeners for radio and the term viewers for TV. (Though it literally means "to have heard", the Afrikaans equivalent term gehoor is used for all audio-visual performance forms and media, such as theatre performances of all kinds, TV and film)
