The NAPAC Musicals Department was founded in 1985 as a department of the Natal Performing Arts Council (NAPAC).

Productions
NAPAC productions
They staged Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, Leonard Bernstein’s Candide and Sweet Charity, collectively marked as The Trilogy in 1989.
They presented Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar at the Durban Playhouse in 1991.
Collaborations
NAPAC Musicals produced several productions in collaboration with the other performing arts councils and producers. These included:
- The Pirates of Penzance (with PACT in 1986).
- The Great Waltz (with CAPAB, PACT and PACOFS in 1987).
- Singin’ in the Rain (with CAPAB, PACT and PACOFS in 1988).
- March of the Falsettos (with Moira Blumenthal at the Adcock-Ingram in September 1989).
- Camelot (with PACT and PACOFS at the State Theatre in 1989).
- Ain’t Misbehavin’ (with Pieter Toerien at the Andre Huguenet in 1990).
- My Fair Lady (with PACOFS and PACT in 1990).
- Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (with CAPAB, PACT and PACOFS from 1990 to 1991).
- A Chorus Line (with PACT, the Johannesburg Civic Theatre Association and CAPAB in 1992).
