Biography
Born in Cape Town 17 September 1925, he trained at the University of Cape Town with Dulcie Howes and since 1947 at Sadlers Wells Theatre Ballet School in London, before went on to fame as a dancer with Covent Garden Ballet Company in England. He returned to South Africa in 1959 to join the staff of the University of Cape Town Ballet School and in 1963 he became the first ballet master of CAPAB Ballet, taking over as artistic director in 1969 and three years later combining this post with the directorship of UCT Ballet. He retired in 1990 and died on 27 August 1991.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He was choreographer on a number of major CAPAB productions.
He choreographed the first full-length South African ballet, The Square (music by Stanley Glasser) (1961).
