Michael Maas (1955-2023) was a musician, lecturer and arts administrator.

Biography

Born in Port Elizabeth on 1 November, 1955, he studied music and later became a music lecturer at the University of Port Elizabeth. In 1984 he founded the National Youth Music Competition and in 1996 followed up George Loopuyt as Director of ArtsCape, tasked with transforming the theatre. He held the post till his retirement in 2015.

He passed away of cancer on 14 March, 2014.
