The original text
A play is set in the 1930s and highlights the so-called "poor-white" problem in South Africa and the rural fear of the big city and its dangers. It tells the story of an urbanised young woman who is forced into prostitution by poverty. Her father disowns her and when she returns to the farm suffering of TB, rejects her.
Published as Die stad Sodom : toneelstuk in drie bedrywe vir vyf here en vyf dames ("The city Sodom: play in three acts for five gentlemen and five ladies") by H.A.U.M. in 1931.
