Tom Penfold is a researcher and teacher in contemporary postcolonial literature.

Biography

Holding a B.A (Exon) from the University of Exeter and a PhD in African Studies from the University of Birmingham (September 2013). This followed by a four year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Johannesburg.

His main focus is poetry and performance culture in South Africa, with key research projects inclduing studies of graffiti in Johannesburg, the #FeesMustFall movements, and Poetry of No Sure Place. He has also worked on Brazil and the wider Global South.

Currently a lecturer and a part-time Postgraduate Recruitment Advisor at the University of Birmingham

He is a Reviews Editor for Africa in Words and works closely with artists, writers and publishers across Africa.
