Charlbi Dean (1990-2020) was a South African born model and actress.

Biography

Born Charlbi Dean Kriek in Cape Town on 5 February,1990, she began her career as a model at the age of six, signing with Alfa Model Management before attending the Waterfront Theatre School and moving into into film and TV acting as a career.

She passed away in New York on 29 August 2022 from “an unexpected sudden illness”. She was engaged to fellow South African model Luke Volker

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Her acting debut was the role of “Amanda” in the 2010 in the South African film Spud[1] and its sequel Spud 2: The Madness Continues (both times billed as Charlbi Dean Kriek). She also appeared in the films Illusive Fields (short film, 2012), Death Race 3: Inferno (2013), Blood in the Water (2016), Don’t Sleep (2017), An Interview with God (2018), Porthole (). On TV she appreared in an episode of Elementary (2017 and played the role of "Syonide", a recurring character in 9 episodes of Black Lightning (2018).
