Biography
Bianca Amato was born in South Africa, Rob Amato and Hildur Amato. She studied drama at the University of Cape Town, graduating with Distinction in 1994. She worked extensively in theatre and television in South Africa, then moved to the USA in 2001, based in New York.
A multi-award-winning Audiobook Narrator, her American stage work includes Private Lives, The Broken Heart, Arcadia, The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Trumpery, The Coast Of Utopia, The Importance of Being Earnest, Mr Fox: A Rumination, As You Like It, Pride and Prejudice, Pygmalion and Topgirls.
Training
She was born and raised in South Africa, where she trained at the University of Cape Town Drama Department, graduating with distinction (1994).
Career
She moved to New York in 2002 and has built a successful career there, with many leading roles at various theatres, including the Guthrie Theater, the Signature Theater, the Public Theater, BAM, the Atlantic Theater, and The Chicago Shakespeare Theater. She has done guest appearances in TV series, narrates Audio-books (To date she has narrated upwards of 30 novels.) Bianca also works as a private acting coach.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
She worked in theatre as well as television in South Africa, culminating in playing the lead in South Africa’s premiere television series Isidingo –The Need for three years, for which she was nominated Best Actress in the South African equivalent of The Golden Globes.
Theatre productions include Christine in A Doll House (1995), Under Milk Wood (1995), Greek (1996), Faith in Kindertransport (1997), Isabella (2000), Proof (2001).
She has also worked in various film and TV productions.
Awards, etc
She was awarded the Cum Laude prize for Best Student of Dramatic Art.
She won two national awards – the Vita Award and the Fleur du Cap Award - for her performances in Greek and Under Milk Wood
