The Jewish Dramatic Society, was founded in 1896 at Baltic House Hall (previously the Fox Street Convent), in Fox Street, Johannesburg. The local community was so hungry for arts and entertainment that houses were "crowded nightly to the doors by Gentiles as well as Jews".
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
The Society presented Yiddish plays such as Goldfaden's Zwei Kuhne Lemels, and Bar Kochba.
