School is a comedy in three acts by T.W. (Tom) Robertson (1829-1871)[1]

The original text
The play was partly suggested by the German piece Aschenbrödel ("Cinderella", 1867) by Roderich Benedix (1811–1873) [2]
The English text first performed at the Prince of Wales's Theatre, London, in 1869.

Performance history in South Africa
1885: Performed in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, by a company brought together by H.C. Sidney and H.J. Fiedler, as part of their repertoire for that year.
1886: Performed by Madame Pearmain and her company as part of a short season of eleven plays put in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, from 22 November onwards.
