Jean Meiring
Jean Meiring (19**-)is an academic, lawyer, author, arts critic and playwright
Born in Stellenbosch, the son of Eben Meiring, he completed a Law degree from Stellenbosch University in South Africa and Oxford University and is an advocate at the Johannesburg Bar.
Previously, he taught at Oxford and Cambridge. At the former, he was a College lecturer at Magdalen College, teaching Roman Law. He also taught Competition Law to final year (FHS) and masters (BCL) students. At Cambridge, he was a fellow and director of studies in Law at Murray Edwards College (formerly New Hall). There he taught Civil Law I and II, Contract Law, the Law of Torts and English Legal History. At Magdalen, he was involved in the interview process, and, at Cambridge, for several years, he interviewed undergraduate applicants to Clare College and Murray Edwards College.
Over the years he has contributed articles, reviews and other commentary to a wide range of media in South Africa, including reviews and articles for LitNet. .
He has written a play called Sout (2002).
