The original text
The play was first performed at the Wallner-Theater, Berlin and published by Eduard Bloch, L. Lassar's Buchhandlung in Berlin, Brüderstrasse Nr. 2, Berlin, in 1873, with the music attributed to August Conradi (1821-1873)[].

Performance history in South Africa
Performed in Dutch as Het Zangerfeest by the rederijkerskamer Onze Taal in the Pretoria in the period 1891-1898.
