Alwyn Swart (194*-). Actor, stage and film director and children’s theatre and TIE specialist.

Career

He joined PACT Playwork under Robin Malan and took over as head in 1978. In his time he devised and directed many socially pertinent programs based on Afrikaans literature and extended TIE to nursery schools. Later became a TV producer and director, though still doing occasional acting as well. He was an assistant director of Pact Drama in 1984.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He directed Ons Wag op die Kaptein (PACT 1982), a PACT production of Die Hertekoning and Galgstories and Other Noose Tales (1990).

Alwyn acted in stage productions of Winnie-the-Pooh (as” Eeyore”, 1976), That Skelm Scapino (1976), Saterdag, Sondag, Maandag (1978), Die Wonderwerk (1979), Kom terug, Klein Sheba (PACT 1980), Germanicus (1981), As die Turksvy Blom (1982) Die Vasvat van 'n Feeks (1983), All in a Tangle...Op 'n Hoop Geknoop (as “Bosso”), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

He adapted Witwater se Mense for the stage.

In 2004 Alwyn took over as convenor of the advisory panel who selects KKNK productions.

He chaired the judging for the Kanna Awards in 2011.

He acted in a number of television series, among them Vyfster (1982) and he had a role in the film Liefling (2010). He is one of the principal directors on the SABC2 soapie 7de Laan.
