The Middleman is a play in four acts by Henry Arthur Jones (1851-1929)[1]

The original text
Written and first performed on 27 August 1889 at the Shaftsbury Theatre, London, with E.S. Willard as "Cyrus Blenkarn". The first US production was at Palmer's Theatre, New York on 10 November, 1890 - also featuring Willard.
The play was a popular performance piece, but was only published by Samuel French in 1907, dedicated to Willard.

Performance history in South Africa
1909: Produced by Leonard Rayne and his company, featuring Edward Vincent as "Cyrus Blenkarn". It was part of their repertoire of four plays, opening at the Standard Theatre, Johannesburg, and then touring the various cities, including a performances at the Opera House, Cape Town, in October.
