The Red Lamp

The Red Lamp is a play in four acts by W.O. Tristram (W. Outram Tristram, 1859-1915)[1]

The original text

A popular melodrama set in revolutionary Russia, it was first produced in 1884 and soon became a popular vehicle for Max Beerbohm Tree and his company, with long runs at Theatre Royal, Haymarket, London till deep into the 1890s. Performed in Australia at the Theatre Royal, Sydney, by the Royal Dramatic Company on 12 November 1887, by a local company featuring inter alia Herbert Flemming.

1898: Performed by Leonard Rayne and his company as part of his repertoire for the season, appearing inter alia at the Opera House, Cape Town.
