Die Verterende Vuur [“The consuming fire” - Afrikaans] by W.A. de Klerk, a 3-act Afrikaans play based on the life of Dr Semmelweis, an idealistic medical practitioner seeking a cure for puerperal fever, as described by Céline. Published in Drie Dramas, 1947.

Performance history in South Africa

1945: First production directed by Truida Pohl, 4 and 5 May 1945, Hofmeyr Hall. With Suzanne van Wyk, Kobus van der Colff, Willem van der Berg, Ria Olivier, Fred le Roux as Dr Semmelweis.

1946: Performed by Volksteater in Pretoria in 1946.
