The original text
First performed at the Royal Adelphi Theatre, London, on the 9th April 1853. Published in London by T.H. Lacy/Samuel French in 1853(?).
Performance history in South Africa
1862: Performed by the Mrs Clara Tellet and company in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 30 June, with The Prima Donna (Boucicault) and a "Medley Dance" by Mrs Brazier.
1864: Performed by the Juvenile Christy's Minstrels in the The Mechanics' Institute, Cape Town, in July, with lead played by Master Williams and Miss Lytton.
