Johannesburg Carnival

The Joburg Carnival is a New Year's celebration based on the Rio-carnival.

It features a parade that moves through the city and across the famous Nelson Mandela Bridge into Newtown where a stage is set up. Troupes decked out in creative, eye catching outfits performs for the audience and prizes are awarded for best costume, choreography and besyt troupe performance.

The carnival is part of the Community Development Department and aims to boost communties and promote skills development, each year based on a specific theme.
