Caste is a comedy-drama by the English dramatist T.W. Robertson (1829-1871) [1].

Also found as True Hearts Are More Than Coronets.

The original text

Based on Robertson's own short story, "The Poor Rate Unfolds a Tale" (1866), the play was first performed on 6 April 1867 at the Prince of Wales' Theatre, London. The text published, with Robertson's Society, by D. C. Heath & Co., in 1905.

1874: Performed in the Mutual Hall on 16 and 17 February by Disney Roebuck and his company, with The Lottery Ticket (Brough and Halliday).

1874: Performed in the Mutual Hall on 16-17 February by Disney Roebuck and his company, with The Lottery Ticket (Brough and Halliday).

1874: Performed in the Oddfellows Hall on 18 February by Disney Roebuck and his company, with The Lottery Ticket (Brough and Halliday).

1874: Performed in the Oddfellows Hall on 21 February by Disney Roebuck and his company, with The Loan of a Lover (Brough and Halliday).


1874: Performed under the protection of the Free Masons in the Mutual Hall on 6 March by Disney Roebuck and his company, presented, with The Area Belle (Brough and Halliday), as a benefit for Roebuck.

1968: Performed under the title True Hearts Are More Than Coronets by the Neill-Firth Company, directed by Angus Neill, with Ivor van Rensburg, Angus Neill, Arthur Hall, Shirley Firth, Elaine Lee, Adrian Egan, Alexander Harding and Lorna Cowell. It opened in the Intimate Theatre, Johannesburg, on 16 October.
