Township Boy is a musical play created circa 1987 by John Ledwaba and Christo Leach.

The original text

The play is about a poet from Soweto who got killed in the Soweto revolt in 1976.

Performance history in South Africa

1988/9: Presented at the Market Theatre and at the Baxter Theatre, starring Jowie Madiba, Matome Rachabane, Pretty Nomhle Tokwe, John Morapama, Lionel Sumithram, Petunia Maboe, Rubdiego Dzwane, Tonny Nene, Anthony Stevens and Michelle Lowry.

Taken on tour to Europe by the Mamu Players, visiting the University of Frankfort/Main in November 1989.
