Alexander Wilmot

Alexander Wilmot (1836-1924) was a post master, historian, poet and playwright.

Also published as A. Wilmot.

Writing

Besides a number of reports, his South African publications included The Story of the Expansion of Southern Africa (), the History of the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope, (with John Centlivres Chase, 1869), History of the Cape Colony. For use in schools (1871), The History of the Zulu War (1880), The Poetry of South Africa (1887) and The History of South Africa(1901).

He wrote the play The Treasure at the Woody Cape, or The Days of Ryk van Tulbach (performed in Port Elizabeth 1867, the text unpublished.)
