Biography
Youth
Born in 1957 in Cape Town.
She lives in Cape Town with her husband and two sons.
Training
She attended Stellenbosch University from 1976 to 1980, where she obtained a BDram degree, followed by a B.A. Hons in Journalism (cum laude).
Career
From 1980 to 1986 she worked as a reporter and editor for several newspapers and magazines (including Die Burger and Die Huisgenoot). From 1986 onwards she became a full-time freelance writer, while continuing her studies at the University of Cape Town, obtaining an MA in Creative Writing.
Her published writings include collections of poetry, short stories and newspaper columns and she has won a number of awards for it.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Her theatre-related work includes a collection of texts she compiled for schools (Veerkrag, OUP, 1993) which contains two plays by other writers, and her first play text, based on one of her own short stories – the award-winning Die Naaimasjien (2008). Her second play was Buitepos (2012).
