Teda de Moor

Teda de Moor. (19**-??) Dance teacher and choreographer.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

In 1941/1942 she founded Black Dance Drama in Johannesburg to work with black labourers and domestic workers, helping them to choreograph programmes in which they could enact their struggles to adapt to life in the city.

In Cape Town she teamed up with George Makanya to found the Bantu Theatre Company. The company made frequent appearances in the Little Theatre until De Moor left Cape Town and the company to some extent, ran out of material. They toured with Hugh Tracey’s Chief Above, Chief Below in 1952.
